I was going to make comfort
of myself by not going to Surabaya today because it was a weekend. A hell of a
weekend would consist of doing TV series marathon and chill, but guess what?
I’ve got to take care of something more paramount, more scholastic—that was to
have our laboratory’s profile presented in a PowerPoint to the freshmen. I was
being a Samaritan. Or maybe it’s not that
I was but we were. A moment after that, I would want to visit Derek to
continue watching Teen Wolf. I’m stuck on the third season and I barely had an
access when I was in office. I woke up with an extreme exhaustion—due to the
fact that I have to spend my early morning on a-2-hour-trip to Surabaya on
workdays and I usually get back on 6 pm and touch my bed on 8-ish sometimes 9
pm. That is the only time that I’d ever call my bed mine. The fun fact is, I
always end up doing nothing and I only have a 3-hour-sleep. Best 4.
Yesterday I couldn’t rest and the
activity inside my brain was getting more intense. I checked my phone to see if
there was someone who voluntarily would want to talk to me. I knew it would be
Derek. I sent him a couple of messages to see if he had already hit the pillow
or not.
We had this awkward conversation
about how people can be happy. I said it would be because of a champion, a
duke? Even more a jewellery. Oh, come on. Who doesn’t love those shiny things?
He had me puzzled with his question. I wanted to answer that with my honest
statement that sharing something, is actually a thing that keeps my tank of happiness
full. He corroborated my statement and asked me when it would likely to happen.
I answered undoubtedly with a simple word; “Right now.” and I smiled
nonchalantly.
We stayed on our conversation for
half an hour when the notifications stopped popping up on my screen. That I
knew he had already surrendered fighting his own drowsiness. I got up and did a
little stretching only to find that cracking sound of my bones. I grabbed a
book that was on the table. I recalled I haven’t finished reading that book. The Fall of Five. It was one hell of a
good read. I read the lines very carefully that I let my inner self saunter the
room that my mind created. I remembered I felt like I was drawn to the actual
scene, the fight with Mogadorian, and saved people. The reading had me awake
until it was dawn. The dark began creeped over my whole sight and I fell
asleep.
My alarm went off like nuts, it
was 6 in the morning. I woke up with a migraine striking my frontal zone. I put
clothes on and had an expeditious breakfast. Today menu was a hamburger. With
double eggs and cheese—my protein resources. I like my egg half-cooked, when
you see the vitellus would go down like an avalanche. Damn it. Best thing I ate
in the morning. I waited for over an hour and shot him a message again telling
that I had a good read last night. He didn’t respond to it, guess he still
drooled over his pillow and snored like a beast. A few minutes later, I jumped
on a hot shower and washed my hair. Last time I checked the clock, the pointer
was on 8 and I knew I wouldn’t make to come punctually. I dressed in formal. My
kind of formal dress in weekends consist a black t-shirt with trousers and
covered with a leather jacket. Maybe I should have it called a casual style,
but whatever.
I watched the world as an
effigy—a representation of image that was put on a sculpture. I rendered myself
helpless every time I crossed the road. It was my turf, and it will always be. I reached the door knob
of my laboratory 20 minutes later. I surprised the whole room with
the-always-the-same-question; “You never get a sufficient amount of sleep, do
you? Look at those big ass eyebags.” But it’s okay. I know the fact that I
can’t cover the black spots with concealer or brightening serum (because I
can’t afford both.)
“Umh, sorry. I didn’t anticipate
that it would take this long.”
“It’s okay, we’ve already gotten
this under control. Have a seat.”
Then I lurked and sat down on a
chair next to the other assistants.
“Alright, so, tell me everything
I missed this morning. Have any of you found cute girls or guys?” I presented a
question, hoping that my existence would make a different ambience. Luckily,
they began telling what I wanted to hear. This kind of conversation literally
turned into a tweener-kinda-talks and we judged them based on their appearance
just like what Rachel did in Mean Girls. But
this wasn’t a Wednesday and we didn’t wear pink. The rule has been altered.
I wished the time would sprint a little bit faster since the ennui stroke me
and everyone felt so enervated that they cooed and subdued the noise around.
All this time I have waited had
come to an ending. The show ended at 12-ish. It was noon, but I barely saw
anything for the sky turned black and the lightnings occurred a few times in a
row. I had to tell Derek that I would stay a bit longer in campus because I was
too lazy to put the raincoat on, and beside I still wanted to surf the
internet. I moved in to the military base of my department—or so called it a
Himpunan. There were a lot of people waiting for the rain. I managed to plug in
a charger because I didn’t have a chance to keep it at a full capacity this
morning. I scrolled through the chat rooms when suddenly this happened.
When we were done, I went
straight to Mason’s house to listen to his contemplating and we ended that by
singing along to old songs. (Tip: if your friend is down, take them to sing a
nice song on a karaoke, or you can make your own field of karaoke with your
style. It works wonder!) See? This only took a few hours until I realized that
I had no chance to tell Derek that I would cancel our meeting today. It was
such a devastating. It was already 9 pm and if the marathon is vehemently done,
I would have to have a sleepover. Which I haven’t prepared for clean towel and
facial foams and stuff. I gave it a thought that it would be nicely done
tomorrow. So, I went home. I kept texting him about stuff that happened today
and I promised him I would delineate everything. He agreed. I seriously would
consider this as an extenuation. Who knows about his verdict on tomorrow. He
said I was being a good guy by listening. Well, if only he knew that I would
want him first to listen to my shitty-week-story first.
He said he already finished
watching the third season and it got me saying; “Dude, are you that free? I
know you cover up for some tasks and you’re getting troubles if you keep
wasting your time.” And he was like, “It’s okay. I have plenty of time.” I told
him not to spoil anything on the end of the third season but he slipped so I
had to put that in moot. He asked me if I was already home and I said; “Yes,
I’m now laying on a couch because it is a 10 now.” and after that question he
stopped sending me chats. I thought he lost against his sleepiness again. Damn
it. I still haven’t talked the whole part. Screw it, I’m going to have a sleep
too. I was about to move when suddenly Mason called me.
“Hello, where are you?” he spoke
in rush voice and he stammered.
“Home, why?”
“You left your thing.”
I broadened my eyes, what thing
did I leave unattended? My phone charger? My wallet?
“Wait what? What thing? You’re
freaking me out!”
“It’s alright, I got that. I’m
outside. Go out.”
“Wha—?” as I haven’t finished my
talking, he hung the phone already. I put some clothes on and peeked on the
window. He was right. There was his car outside, I remembered the number. “What
does he want? I thought the conversation had met a full stop.” As I grabbed the
keys and stepped outside. It was cold and I was on a barefoot.
“What the fuck? I could have gone
by tomorrow, I guess? Why the hell did you remember the street of my
residence?”
“Get inside, I’m ravenous.
Pinpoint me a good place to eat. Now.”
“You’re actually in no position
of asking me with that voice.”
“This is an order. Get inside, I
will not repeat myself.”
“Shit. I’m grabbing a jacket
first—”
“Don’t need to. Just, hurry!”
“Fuck it, Mason, I’m going to
kill you.” and I opened the gate, being oblivious. I opened the door and sat on
a cold seat. “Damn it I freeze myself.”
“How do we make a U-turn here?”
“Just go straight a few meters
and you’ll find a turn-around. What do you want, Mason?”
“So, how’s thing going between
you and Derek? Have you replied his message?”
“Yeah, I have. He stopped sending
though, he might be asleep by now. He just kind of spoiling the ending of the
third season and it was—”
“Ssh!” he cut me off.
“What? Hey, why do we sidle?
You’re not going to do anything, right? I see the modus operandi of the
burglars and bad guys always start with an improper introduction and they’ll
have a hostage only to sell their internal organs. Fuck. I’m good with a
barehand fighting you premature fetus you fight—” my voice was shaking and I
was shimmering. I clutched my fists and all my senses were heightened. It was
only before I saw something on my back and
“GRRRROOWWWWLLLL!!!!”
I froze my system for half a
second before I saw someone and I jumped; “Fuck!”
Two people actually came out from
the backseat. They were skulking and waiting for an untimely period to amaze
me. They pulled out a small cake and began to uncover it.
“Holy shit, I forgot the candle.”
[clicks the lamp switch]
“Dear Lord, did you guys bring
it?”
Derek was the one calmed and he
said; “I got the lighter, we make the symbolization first before we hit the
main. Alright? A mace. I’m igniting this.”
“I still want to punch you in the
face, though, Der.” I said as I held back tears. We all know he is the type of
a cool cucumber. He deals things very calmly and nonchalantly to me.
“Do I have to utter the wishes
loudly or just blow the match right away?”
“Just hurry before I cauterize my
own thumb.”
“Screw it. Shoo!” I blew it
gently and rapidly close my eyes. I felt the peppier version of me trying to
break through the seal. I didn’t see it forthcoming. No one actually indicted
me but they. It was just dismantling the weight on my shoulder. The first time
my migraine stopped. The very first time to have this kind of balmy atmosphere.
I guess I just missed the state of being taken care.
“Here is your late present, happy
belated birthday. We’re sorry to have your schedule cancelled when you said you
wanted to go to Pacitan.” said by Cisco.
“Alright, thank you. Then we can
stop by at my place and eat what you’ve got.”
“Hell of a good idea, I’m
starving and sweets are just sweet oh damn it.”
The gift was wrapped with
newspapers and sports-themed. Derek made it. The uniqueness and the card’s
shape made me not want to open it. I wanted to open once they were gone, but
they insisted. I opened them one by one. And again, Derek’s card was full of
mystery and riddle. He even made it uneasy to open (you know, he folded it in
an irregular shape and I swear if I tear it I would make him write the wishes
again). Still the thing I do not understand.
“Sometimes the questions are complicated and the answers are simple.
So, do not ask because the answer is simple.
Uncle…
Good. Better. Best. Never let it rest.
Til’ your good is better and your better is best.
My Bro, Jerome.
Happy birthday. Bobski.”
See? That was ridiculous. I mean
the last time he sent me birthday greeting was when the d-day and he
re-forwarded my message (which made me so furious because he didn’t even talk
to me back then.) Oh la la. I’ve lost my cool. I don’t know if this setting up
event is worth it, I mean, what if, I’m already in Madura? They seriously didn’t
think of carrying the gift across the island to hand it to me. I really wanted
to cry myself to sleep now thank you everybody, next time I’ll do it better.
[Phone beeps]
Teddy: Position of Cisco and
Derek?
“Hey, someone has to reply that. Should
I?”
“Umh no, let Derek.”
[Types rapidly]
Derek: Pacitan.
“We need to reconsider that Bob isn’t
that smart for he easily fell on our trap. He didn’t even see my sneakers
below. Poor him” – Cisco.
“Yes, I’m very aware of that
thank you, and the fake howling isn’t funny you know you need to eke your
sound. But thank you, again. Seriously the best of you guys. Alright, somebody
has to elaborate this. I’ll come to your place tomorrow, Der. Be ready for a
ton of questions. Now rest well and I’ll see you soon.”
“I’ll see you soon.”
And that was the end. Bonus
pictures are brought here.
